Transit Maintenance Wheels and Tyres The Continental All Season Tyres fitted to the van, still have most of the tread on them, but I wanted All Terrain and Alloys to replace the rusty steel rims. There is a very good wheel and tyre comparator at https://www.willtheyfit.com/ If you input your current wheel/tyre/offset and compare it with a proposed new set up. You can see how the clearances will change and also the effect on your speedo. Below is my comparison of the stock Transit set up and my 245 70R16 on 7.5J Et50 16" rims. ![]() I started looking for some rims, but soon found out that most of those on offer for the Transit are Black! ![]() I didn't want Black wheels and finally settled on this AT2 design in Gunmetal finish. They were supplied by Extreme Alloy Wheels, who were very helpful in answering my newbie questions. There is no suspension lift on the van, but these tyres add an additional 21mm ground clearance. ![]() The wheels are 16" x 7.5J x ET50 offset and 1250kg loading. They are shod with Davanti Terratoura A/T's size LT 245 70R16 113/110T. Mine are OBL (Outline Black Lettering) I didn't want raised White lettering. These are rated (in this size) as C for Economy, C for the Wet, 75dB Noise and are 3PMSF Approved for Winter use. They get great reviews, for being quite, with good road manners on wet/dry tarmac and great grip off road in mud or snow. They are less than half the price of BFG KO2's so were an easy choice. ![]() The chunky Davanti's look the part and fill the arches nicely. They are larger than the stock tyres and reduce the speedo reading by about 5%. On my vehicle this corrects the 5% over reading I was getting. My SatNav and speedo now read exactly the same between the 30 to 70mph range I tested. The gearing has changed subtly, I used to find it a bit to low geared in slow traffic around town, with lurchy gear changes going from rest in 1st to 2nd gear. It's a lot smoother now and nicer to drive. At 53mph I'm doing exactly 2000rpm and at 70mph its 2625rpm. I can't remember what the figures were previously, but the revs have definitely come down slightly, so its a win/win situation. ![]() With the wheel straight, Front clearance at the seam is about 35mm. ![]() The rear wheel also has about 35mm clearance. ![]() When the front wheel is turned, the minimum clearance at the seam is around 16mm, the best I can measure. ![]() The rear wheels stick out a bit more than stock, but still stay nicely within the arches. ![]() The front wheels also stay within the arches. Overall I'm very pleased with the way they fit and I love the way they look. |
